Depending on the needs of individual schools and care providers and the length of their training programme, here are some examples of what we can provide -
1. Exploration of incidents and issues re. challenging behaviour faced by staff in their setting plus what strategies work and what additional skills are needed
2. Ensure teaching and other authorised staff have a clear understanding of the law in relation the "use of reasonable force" and how this impacts on holding individuals at moments of crisis.
3. An introduction to safe touch, holding and restraint techniques to care for individuals with challenging behaviour at moments of crisis. This will include:
a) the care principles on which safe touch, holding and restraint are based;
b) how to practice the skills safely;
c) observation, practice and coaching of standing and sitting skills and
d) how to develop a team approach to increase the safety of both children, young people, vulnerable adults and staff
4. Clarifying staff’s legal rights of self defence when
a) they are faced with threats and aggression from children, young people and adults in their care.
b) observe and practice simple methods of self defence and breakaway skills if needed.
